A 21-year-old North Carolina man was arrested for murder after his missing father was found dead in Charlotte.
Fred Dunlap, 79, was reported missing last Friday, and a Missing and Endangered Alert issued on Tuesday. Family members said he rquired medications and didn’t have them with him when he disappeared, Queen City News reported.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers found Dunlap dead with “apparent trauma” behind his home on Wednesday, according to WSOC.
Investigators quickly identified Desmond Elijah Dunlap as the suspect in the elder Dunlap’s murder and arrested him on Thursday. Neighbors told the station that Fred Dunlap and his now-deceased wife adopted Desmond when he was 8-year-old.
“It’s definitely a loss and definitely he will be missed around here,” said Corey Wynn. “We all kind of looked out for him over the last few years.”
Desmond Dunlap has been charged with murder, financial transaction card theft, and obtaining property by false pretense and is being held without bond.
He is due in court Friday.
