A 37-year-old Florida woman was arrested last week for the “gruesome” stabbing death of her elderly mother in Bay County.
Sheriff’s deputies were alerted to a woman “appearing to be in distress” walking along US 231 on Wednesday, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office said. The deputy who made contact with Tiffany Braddock reported that she “began making statements to him that she had killed her mother at their shared home.”
Deputies conducted a welfare check at the home and found 73-year-old Elizabeth Braddock dead “with signs of foul play.”
“We made entry into the house and discovered a female, Elizabeth Braddock deceased,” Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford told WJHG. “Obvious signs of foul play. Pretty gruesome scene.”
Ford said that Braddock confirmed to deputies “her involvement in the death of her mother.”
In an affidavit filed with the court, deputies wrote that Braddock was found wandering along the highway, “speaking to herself and swinging her arms around,” two days after she killed her mother and left her lying on a recliner in the home, according to Law&Crime.
The deputy who went to the Braddocks’ home “observed the front door to be cracked open with the victim sitting in a recliner deceased with multiple stab wounds,” the affidavit said.
Braddock told investigators during an interview that she stabbed her mother with a hunting knife on Monday but “did not believe the victim to be deceased so she stabbed the victim several more times.”
Deputies found the knife while executing a search warrant.
“The defendant stated she murdered her mother due to the fact the mother was abusive towards her,” deputies wrote in the affidavit. “The defendant stated the victim was abusive due to the victim using curses on her, but did not define any form of physical violence.”
Braddock reportedly said she had been planning to kill her mother for two years, adding that the murder was “premeditated.”
“The defendant stated she did not have remorse and was laughing while describing how she murdered the victim,” the affidavit said.
Braddock is charged with first degree murder and is being held without bond, according to jail records.
