Cause of Death Revealed for Woman Found Dead in Backseat of Car at Atlanta Transit Station

A 35-year-old Georgia woman found dead in the backseat of a car at an Atlanta transit station earlier this month was shot to death.

Fulton County Medical Examiner ruled Chanell Crosby’s death to be a homicide, WXIA reported.

Crosby, whose 13-year-old son Jamiren was shot to death in a still-unsolved murder in 2022, was last seen on July 13 by family members, as CrimeOnline reported. Her decomposing body was found July 19 in the parking lot of the West End transit station, about nine miles from her home.

Jamiren Crosby was found shot to death behind a townhome in Lithonia on September 19, 2022. A security camera captured footage of the boy and another person walking through a backyard the night before. No one has been charged for the boy’s death.

Five months earlier, the 35-year-old mother’s brother, Darrio “Polo” Giles, was found shot to death inside an apartment in southwest Atlanta. No one was ever arrested for that murder either, but police said they believed the motive was robbery — Giles had just won several thousand dollars in a progressive slot machine, and the money was gone when his body was found.

Crosby’s autopsy report said that her body was found in the backseat of a locked vehicle underneath “numerous objects,” including blankets and car floor mats. No gun was found inside the car.

Atlanta police previously said they were leading the investigation into her death. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers Atlanta Tip Line at 404-577-TIPS (8477), online at www.StopCrimeAtl.org, or by texting CSA and the tip to CRIMES (274637).
