Brother & Sister Get Into All-Out Brawl Over Unseasoned Chicken

A South Carolina brother and sister got into a wild brawl Sunday over unseasoned chicken that involved fists, a gun, a knife, a broom, and Raid bug spray.

Anothony and Hope Harper were both arrested when the dust settled, with the 27-year-old man charged with third and second degree assault and battery and his 25-year-old sister charged with third degree assault and battery, Georgetown County jail records say.

Deputies responded to the home at about 11 p.m. Sunday, Georgetown and Beyond News reported, when Hope Harper told them that her brother assaulted her when she asked “why he didn’t season the chicken that was cooking so it could crust up.”

“I know how to cook, and Grammy was going to season the chicken,” Anothony Harper allegedly replied before his sister called him a dumb dog and he pushed her onto the kitchen table and began punching her in the face, a police report said.

Another person joined in the fight, WBCD reported, before still another person fired a warning shot into the ceiling with a 9mm handgun in an attempt to break up the brawl.

While one person held the brother back, Hope Harper ran into the kitchen and got a steak knife, which she began swinging toward her brother, he broke free and ran to his grandmother’s door for protection.

At that point, the grandmother came out of her room, grabbed a broom, and began chasing both her grandchildren, swatting Hope Harper until she finally relented, walking away and putting the knife back in the kitchen.

But the fight wasn’t over. With the knife no longer at play, Anothony Harper grabbed the bug spray and sprayed his sister in the face, prompting her to take it from him and spray him right back.

When deputies arrived, both siblings wanted to press charges, so both were arrested.

Both were released on Wednesday after making bond, $3,587.50 for Anothony and $1,087.50 for Hope.
