A Colorado college professor was formally charged on Friday with first degree murder in the death of his wife, who was found dead in their Denver home alongside the couple’s 2-month-old daughter.
The Denver Officer of the Medical Examiner said on Friday that 44-year-old Seorin Kim died from blunt force trauma, KMGH reported. The manner of death was homicide, the medical examiner said.
The office has not determined the cause of death for the infant, identified as Lesley Kim, who police said had no visible injuries when they found her dead on Monday, after her father, 44-year-old Nicholas Myklebust called police just before 7 a.m. to say he’d found his daughter and wife dead. as CrimeOnline reported.
Police arrived on scene and found Kim suffering from apparent blunt force injuries and took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Detectives took Myklebust into custody after finding bruising and blood on his knuckles and scratches on his neck.
In addition to murder, Myklebust has been charged with tampering with evidence. He is not currently charged in connection with the baby girl’s death.
Myklebust was an associate professor in English at Regis University, a private, Jesuit Roman Catholic school in Denver, at the time of the murder, but the school told KMGH that he is no longer affiliated with them. Myklebust had been at Regis since 2014, after working at the University of Texas-Austin, where he earned his masters and doctorate degrees, from 2004 until 2014.
Myklebust is being held on a $5 million bail and is due in court again on August 15.
