Crime Stoppers is offering a #22,500 cash reward for answers that lead to an arrest in connection with the murder of a prominent Detroit physician.
Dr. Devon Hoover, 53, was found dead in his home in the Boston-Edison Historic District of Detroit on April 22, 2023. An autopsy revealed he was shot twice in the back of the head, as CrimeOnline reported.
When police arrived for a welfare check, they found Hoover wrapped in a plastic sheet and stuffed into his mansion’s attic. Hoover’s vehicle was stolen but later abandoned a short distance from his home.
A person of interest was taken into custody shortly after the shooting on an unrelated warrant but was released days later.
There were no signs of forced entry.
Detroit Police Chief James White told USA Today that the person of interest and Hoover were acquainted but declined to elaborate on the nature of their relationship.
“We’re confident this person has information about what transpired,” White said. “This was not a random act.”

White declined to comment on a potential motive.
“We’ve got some theories,” he said. “Right now, we’re happy to have a person of interest who we can question — we’re not going to stop until we have every piece of information that we need.”
People Magazine reports that neighbors claimed Hoover frequently hosted gatherings and community events at his home, while loved ones, who called him “kind,” were stunned by the news of his death.
Crime Stoppers is now offering a $22,500 cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
