An Iowa woman was arrested last week, a year after she allegedly poisoned her husband with eye drops.
Daisy Zantjer, 39, was accused of putting the eye drops in her husband’s drink on two instances in July 2023. Late last month, Zantjer’s husband alerted Pleasantville police to the incidents, sparking a monthlong investigation that resulted in the wife’s arrest, according to WHO-DT.
Eye drops’ active ingredient is tetrahydrozoline, a decongestant that can lead to drowsiness, low blood pressure, and slow heart rate. KCCI reported that Zantjer’s husband was hospitalized for breathing issues but survived.
Zantzjer is charged with administering harmful substances and two counts of domestic abuse assault – injury or mental illness first offense. She is due in court on August 8.
