A Mississippi police lieutenant has been charged with the statutory rape of a 12-year-old girl in Kemper County.
Meridian Police Lt. Kevin Michael Boyd surrendered on Tuesday, the Kemper County Sheriff’s Department said, according to a statement provided to WTOK but not posted to their Facebook page with other arrests.
The statement said that a complaint was filed on March 16 “with the Mississippi Department of Child Protectives Services in reference to a twelve-year-old girl being molested by the suspect.”
Investigators said they found enough evidence to charge Boyd and obtained a warrant for his arrest. The sheriff’s department made arrangements with Boyd’s employer to bring him to Kemper County to surrender.
He is due in court on Wednesday.
The Meridian Police Department said Boyd was placed on leave until further notice, WTOK said. The station did not say if he was still being paid by the department.
