Parents Charged in Death of 12-Year-Old Girl Who Died From Improperly Treated Diabetes

Warrants have been issued for the arrest of the parents of a 12-year-old Indiana girl who died from complications of diabetes on July 4.

Ashley and Brent Bredhold are charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, WFIE reports.

According to affidavits for the arrests, Evansville Police were called to the family home on July 4 and found Alice Bredhold dead on the floor. An autopsy said she died from diabetic ketoacidosis.

The affidavits say the parents were not helping their daughter with the maintenance she needed. The Department of Children’s Service had already been involved because the girl consistently had extremely high blood sugar when she was tested at school.

Two other children were removed from the home, which was filled with trash and insects, the affidavits say.

Once the Bredholds are arrested, they’ll be given $100,000 bonds.

According to an obituary, Alice Bredhold attended Evans Elementary School and played cello in the school orchestra. She was also a member of the Evansville Junior Rockhounds.
