Three people — one of them a 6-year-old child — and the child’s mother killed in an apparent domestic violence attack that also left the murderer dead from a self-inflicted gunshot.
Wilson County, North Carolina, sheriff’s deputies and Sharpsburg Police officers were initially called to a shooting at about 5 a.m. Sunday, when they found a man and woman wounded, WRAL reported. The two were taken to Vidant Hospital for treatment.
The officers began a hunt for Daquan Marcato Jones, 32, who had allegedly kidnapped his girlfriend and her 6-year-old child from that home and fled to another home in neighboring Nash County.
Nash County deputies arrived at that home and found Jones dead inside. They found his girlfriend dead in the car he drove from Wilson County, WTVD reported.
It’s not clear from news reports where the wounded child was found. WNCN said the child was “dropped off at a home in Nash County,” while WRAL said Jones took both “to a home on Jamie Road in Nash County.”
All three of the wounded victims were undergoing surgery. The child was said to be in critical condition.
The homeowner in Nash County, where Jones and his girlfriend were found, told WRAL he’d known them for years and was home when the shooting took place and when police rushed in.
The names of the victims have not been released.
