Tennessee Mom Charged With Attempted Murder After Driving into a Lake With Toddler on Board

A Tennessee woman has been charged with attempted murder after she allegedly drove into a lake with a toddler inside the car.

Kalyna Laraye Young, 21, also faces charges of reckless endangerment, driving under the influence, and aggravated child abuse and neglect, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office said that Young drove into Boone Lake on Saturday with her 2-year-old child in the car. Witnesses called 911 and pulled Young and the toddler out of the vehicle.

Deputies determined that she intentionally drove into the lake.

Young was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where she is being held without bond. She is expected to make a first court appearance Monday afternoon.

The child has been released into the custody of a family member.
