‘I’m Sorry to Whoever Found Us’: Female Firefighter Kills Boyfriend, Leaves Behind Suicide Note

Officials concluded that two Georgia firefighters who were found dead in Tennessee in June was a case of murder-suicide.

A recently completed autopsy report stated that Raegan Anderson, 24, fatally shot Chandler Kuhbander, 24, before turning the gun on herself. According to Newsweek, Anderson left behind a note to her grandmother in which she apologized for her actions.

“I’m sorry to whoever found us. I am sorry to everyone I hurt,” reportedly reads the note dated June 25. “Tell her how sorry I am. I love you Nanna. I want her to inherit everything.”

The Cocke County Medical Examiner determined that Anderson died from a gunshot wound to the head — with a deformed bullet and bullet fragments being recovered from her scalp. A toxicology report came back negative.

Anderson and Kuhbander worked for Liberty County Fire Services in Hinesville and were in a relationship for seven years before breaking up in 2023. Investigators determined that Anderson was “unstable” and forced Kuhbander to go with her on June 24 — six days before they were found dead.

Anderson and Kuhbander vanished on June 24 near the Oglethorpe Mall in Savannah, Georgia. Reports indicated they were also spotted the next day at Liberty County Fire Services Station #1 in Midway.  Anderson’s debit card was last used at a Circle K in South Carolina — where Kuhbander’s cell phone also pinged.

Hinesville police said the pair was found dead in a car in Cosby, Tennessee, more than 300 miles away from where they vanished nearly a week earlier.

Newsweek reported that Anderson was found sitting on top of Kuhbander in the passenger seat. Their IDs were also found in the car, which was parked on private property in the woods.

In late June — days before the abduction — Anderson was arrested for vandalizing Kuhbander’s car after he went on a date with another woman. Kuhbander said he was on a date at an Olive Garden when Anderson came and made comments to his date until she felt uncomfortable and left.

An argument reportedly ensued between Anderson and Kuhbander which led to Anderson keying his car, breaking the gas cap and rear windshield wiper. Anderson told police that Kuhbander made hurtful statements to her, according to Newsweek.
