A California toddler died Sunday night after he was found unresponsive in a vehicle near a home in Folsom.
The cause of 2-year-old Theo Patterson’s death is still “undetermined” pending an autopsy, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office said.
The boy was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead shortly just before 7 p.m. on Sunday, the Folsom Times reported.
The Folsom Police Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department are handing the investigation and said no further details about the death would be released until after the autopsy.
If the toddler is determined to have died in a hot car, he will be the 24th such death this year. According to No Heat Stroke, 29 children died of vehicular heatstrokes in 2023.
