A 16-year-old California girl remains missing more than a week after she reportedly vanished while on the way to school.
Mayanin Vazquez’s family told KABC that she was going to school with her sisters on August 12 when she stopped at a Smart & Final grocery store in Los Angeles. Vasquez’s sister reportedly filmed her walking away with an unfamiliar man shortly before her disappearance.
Vasquez’s family said she left her cell phone behind, though they don’t believe she ran away.
KTTV reported that Vasquez and the unidentified man were also seen in security footage from the grocery store.
“You’re not in trouble,” Vasquez’s father told KABC, addressing his missing daughter. “Don’t let them lie to you that you cannot come home. That we won’t love you, that we won’t accept you. We are home with open arms, waiting for her to be found and come home.”
Anyone with information regarding Vasquez’s whereabouts is asked to call the Los Angeles Police Department.
