Three people are in jail after a New Jersey woman was doused with acid last month at her home in Monroe Township.
The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office said on Tuesday that William DiBernardino, the woman’s 49-year-old ex-boyfriend, hired Betty Jo Lane, 38, and Jmarr McNeil, 39, of Jacksonville, Florida, to commit the attack, which took place on July 26, KYW reported.
The 42-year-old woman was attacked by Lane and McNeil after she had come home from work and parked in her driveway. She suffered chemical burns over 35 percent of her body, the prosecutor’s office said, and is still being treated at a burn center.
The three suspect were arrested in Florida and have waived an extradition hearing.
The prosecutor’s office said that DiBernardino, from Boynton Beach, Florida, hired Lane and McNeil, who drove to Monroe Township in a rental car.
Monroe Township police were assisted in the investigation by US Marshals, Homeland Security Investigations, and other agencies.
The suspects have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and stalking, according to a statement from the prosecutor’s office that was posted on Facebook and then removed.
