A 5-year-old boy somehow found an loaded, unsecured gun in a Utah home on Thursday and shot himself with it.
Santaquin Police said that medics tried to save the boy’s life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, KSTU reported.
Police were called to the scene just after 2 p.m., KTVX reported.
Santaquin Police Lt. Mike Wall said that investigators don’t believe foul play was involved but are trying to determine how the shooting happened.
Police have not named the child or the family and asked the public to respect the family’s privacy.
