A Georgia man was arrested in Louisiana on Wednesday, a day after he allegedly killed his wife and buried her behind their home.
WSB-TV reported that Kenneth Hardin Jr., 39, told family members on Wednesday that he killed his wife, Carrie Hardin, a day earlier at their Fayette County home and burned her body. Hardin Jr. allegedly said the slaying was self-defense and that he was leaving town.
Police believe Hardin Jr. fatally shot his wife following an alcohol-fueled argument. Police said a cadaver dog located Hardin’s partially burned remains, which were buried under yard debris in the back of the property, according to WAGA.
“He had related that his son had purchased a plane ticket for him to fly to Georgia, and met him at a bank earlier,” police said, alleging that he also gave all his bank information to his father.
Hardin Jr.’s car was tracked to a motel in Covington, Louisiana, where SWAT took him into custody.
Hardin Jr.’s father called 911 after his son revealed he had killed his wife and was leaving town, according to Greater Garden City.
Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb said Hardin Jr. has confessed to killing his wife and is cooperating with their ongoing investigation.
Hardin Jr., who is charged with murder, is being held at the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center in Louisiana without bond as he awaits extradition to Georgia.
