An Instagram model accused of being high on “pink cocaine” when she caused a high-speed crash in Miami is now under house arrest after posting a $26,000 bond.
Maecee Marie Lathers, 24, posted bail and entered a not-guilty plea to charges of vehicular homicide, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, and fleeing the scene of a crash, according to Law&Crime.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Miami-Dade Police arrested Lathers on August 11, a day after she allegedly ran a red light at North Miami Avenue around 7 a.m. and crashed her Mercedes into a Range Rover, which then collided with a sedan.
The rear passenger in the sedan died at the scene. The driver, identified as Abraham Ismael, was pulled from the wreckage and later died at a hospital. His wife, Juanita Hernández, who was in the passenger seat, and the driver of the Range Rover were both hospitalized.
Lathers allegedly accelerated to 78 mph at the moment of impact, after driving at 57 mph seconds before the crash. She had her “accelerator at 100%,” police said.
Security footage captured Lathers walking away from the scene before witnesses pulled her back to the scene, according to a police report.
NBC 6 reports that police found her vomiting when they arrived, and she allegedly admitted to being high on a party drug called “tusi,” also referred to as “pink cocaine.”
Lathers allegedly claimed “that she was from the future and had a crystal ball,” police said.
“She advised she was under the influence of ‘2C’ a known party drug and that she was from the future and had a crystal ball,” JFlorida 11th Circuit Court Judge Mindy S. Glazer read from the report during court earlier this month.
Lathers was initially charged with driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene and causing a death. Prosecutors added new charges after a vehicle data search warrant revealed that her speed limit.
She could also be charged her with DUI manslaughter, pending the results of her toxicology test.
Lathers is scheduled for a court appearance on September 3. Check back for updates.
