An Oregon woman was arrested this week after her 8-year-old child called 911 from the back seat of her car saying her mother was driving recklessly and looking for “water to drive into.”
Springfield Police officers took Camie Sorensen, 43, into custody on Monday, charging her with reckless driving, eluding, and reckless endangering.
The 911 call reported that a blue Subaru was “being driven recklessly through red lights” as it traveled toward Springfield, a city in Oregon’s Southern Willamette Valley.
An officer parked along the route the vehicle was believed to be using, and shortly afterward the Subaru went by, “briefly yielding at a red light.”
“The vehicle then accelerated away at a high rate of speed as the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop,” police said.
Sorensen continued southbound on Pioneer Parkway West, and officers observed her “weaving through traffic, and driving dangerously” before making an abrupt stop in the middle of an intersections.
Officers approached the vehicle and took Sorensen into custody while another officer retrieved the child who had called 911.
No further information was released.
