A Kentucky woman was arrested in Indiana Friday morning after she tried to steal a car with a child inside.
Ricki Ann Smith, 28, reportedly told Evansville Police that rapper Kanye West “telegraphically” told her to steal the car, WFIE reported.
An arrest affidavit says that Smith had been trying to get into random vehicles parked on North Mains Street in downtown Evansville Friday morning. The victim told officers that she was stopping by a store while taking her child to daycare and saw Smith trying to get into her vehicle.
The victim said she grabbed Smith by the hair and pulled her out, then called police.
Smith told police her car broke down on Interstate 64 while she was travelling from Louisville, Kentucky, to Evansville, and that she hitchhiked the rest of the way to Evansville. When asked why she was stealing the car, she told officers that West had told her “telegraphically” to take it.
Smith was charged with attempted kidnapping and attempted auto theft and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail, where she is currently being held without bond, jail records show.
Police found Smith’s vehicle crashed into a tree line off Interstate 64.
