A 4-year-old North Carolina boy abducted at gunpoint by his mother was recovered Saturday morning, and his mother and her boyfriend were arrested.
The incident began Friday afternoon when Deneshia Williams, Jontae Purdie, and another man accosted the boy’s father, WTVD reported. Williams reportedly held a gun on the father while Purdie and the other, unnamed man, assaulted him.
Meanwhile the father’s girlfriend tried to get the boy, Brandis Tyrone Smith Jr., away from the situation, but Williams reportedly pointed the gun at her and took her wallet and the child.
An Amber Alert was issued for the boy at about 8:30 p.m., hours after the abduction.
A town spokesperson said the boy was found unharmed Saturday morning in Fayetteville, WRAL said. Williams and Purdie were arrested; it’s not clear if the third person was located.
Williams, 28, and Purdie, 33, were charged with robbery with a firearm, simple assault of a child younger than 12 years old and simple assault.
