A 10-year-old Louisiana boy reportedly confessed to police that he shot to death and 82-year-old man and his 31-year-old daugther Sunday morning.
The victims were identified as Joe Cornelius Sr., a long time Minden city council member who was appointed mayor after the death of a previous mayor in 2013, and his daughter, Keisha Miles, KTBS reported.
Minden Mayor Nick Cox posted on Facebook about Cornelius’s death, saying the former mayor’s years of service “were marked by his commitment and dedication to the bettermen of our community.”
“On a personal note, I am grateful for his friendship and the many ways he supported me and others in our city,” Cox wrote.
Cornelius ran for mayor of Minden in 2014 but finished third, according to the Shreveport Times. He also served as a Webster Parish deputy and a ward marshal for the parish before his retirement in 2022, the Webster Parish Journal said.
Minden Police said they were called to the scene at about 6:30 a.m. on Sunday and found the victims, both with multiple gunshot wounds, the Minden Press-Herald reported.
“We have the suspect in custody now,” said Police Chief Jared McIver. “We have a confession from the suspect.”
No further information about the shootings have been released.
