A suspect was arrested on Saturday, a day after a Wisconsin college student was fatally shot at her off-campus apartment.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Kara Welsh, 21, a champion gymnast, was killed on Friday at her home which is located near the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Around midnight on Saturday, Whitewater police arrested Chad Richards — a former wrestler and current student at the college, the Journal Sentinel reported.
Richards’ bond was set at $1 million on Tuesday. Additional details surrounding the slaying — including the nature of Welsh and Richards’ relationship — were not disclosed. However, Whitewater police said Richards, 23, was “known to” Welsh.
WITI reported that Welsh was shot multiple times.
Richards is charged with first-degree intentional homicide, endangering safety by the use of a dangerous weapon, and disorderly conduct while armed. He is due back in court on Friday.
