Missing Massachusetts Mom Found Dead in a Conservation Area; Neighbor Arrested

A Massachusetts mom who never returned after taking out the trash over the weekend was found dead dead Tuesday nearly 10 miles from her home.

Thirty-five-year-old Cristian Montero, who lived in the same apartment buidling as Carol Flaz-Burgos, has been carrested and is expected to be charged with murder when an autopsy is completed, said Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker, according to WBTS.

“It is not a murder charge yet,” Tucker said. “He is in custody on a charge of witness intimidation with a charge of misleading an investigation. We expect over the next couple of days, when the medical examiner’s office completes their autopsy, that those charges will be upgraded to murder.”Flaz-Burgos, 37, walked out of her apartment in Lawrence on Saturday with the trash and never returned, as CrimeOnline reported, sparking what Tucker said was a “full court press” to find her.

According to WHDH, authorities said pieces of the puzzle came together quickly, ultimately leading to the missing woman’s body.

“The forensic evidence, the digital evidence that we have, the location of where the body was found have all led us to believe that we expect a murder charge to come within the next couple of days,” Tucker said.

Flaz-Burgos’s body was found in the Kenoza Lake conservation area in Haverhill, WBTS reported. A Massachusetts State Police K-9 team located the remains.

Flaz-Burgos was the mother of two young children. Montero is expected to be arraigned on the initial charges on Wednesday.
