Missing 13-Year-Old Girl Found in Pennsylvania Adult Jail

A 13-year-old girl from the Pittsburgh area, reported missing in early August, was held with adult inmates at a Pennsylvania jail, a prosecutor reportedly stated.

ABC News reports that an employee at the Beaver County jail recognized the teen as a missing person, prompting officials to remove her from the adult section, according to Beaver County District Attorney Nate Bible.

Her parents were notified, picked her up, and her case has now been transferred to juvenile court.

Pittsburgh police reported her missing on August 6, with later sightings in the city and on public transportation. She was arrested for shoplifting in Beaver Falls on August 17, where she provided false information, claiming she was 18.

The girl eventually admitted she was a minor from Pittsburgh. Although officers offered to release her to her parents, she falsely claimed to be homeless, Bible added.

Beaver Falls police reached out to child services in Beaver and Allegheny counties but found no records due to the false information. Bible did not clarify how long she was held with adult inmates.
