New York officials said on Thursday that they identified human remains found in a suitcase two days earlier.
Suffolk County police said Seikeya Jones’ body was left in a suitcase, along a wooded road, behind an apartment building in Huntington. Jones, 31, was homeless and reported missing on August 16, according to WABC.
Residents at the apartment building where Jones’ body was found on Tuesday showed WNBC doorbell footage of Jones walking inside with an unidentified man last week.
The New York Post reported that Jones was last seen near Fifth Avenue in Huntington Station. Her decayed remains were discovered after residents complained of a foul odor.
“I was taking a walk. I smelled something. I saw a whole bunch of flies. I had looked over and I saw the suitcase,” a witness told News12. “So then I called it in, I was like I’d rather be safe than sorry. This is out of the ordinary. This is not normal.”
Jones’ cause of death is currently undermined. It is also unclear how long she had been dead before her remains were found.
