A Look Inside Georgia High School Shooter’s Troubled Home Life, Mother’s Extensive Criminal History

The mother of a teenager charged with the murder of four people at a Georgia high school has a significant criminal history spanning across multiple counties.

Marcee and Colin Gray are the parents of Colt Gray, who has been charged with murder after opening fire at Apalachee High School in Winder on Wednesday morning.

The shooting killed math teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53, as well as 14-year-old students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo. Nine others — eight students and one teacher — were injured, as previously reported by CrimeOnline.

Colin Gray, 54, has also been charged. He faces four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children following the deadly attack, according to the GBI.

Fox News reports that while Colt’s 43-year-old mother has not been charged in the shooting, she has an extensive arrest record. Her most recent arrest, in November 2023, was for scratching words into her husband’s truck and drug-related offenses, according to police and court records.

An arrest warrant indicated possession of methamphetamine, fentanyl, multiple muscle relaxants, and a glass pipe “used for the ingestion of narcotics.”

The warrant also notes she attempted to conceal her vehicle’s identity by switching the tag on her Nissan Rogue with one from a Nissan Kicks.

In December 2023, Gray pleaded guilty to using a license plate to conceal identity, criminal damage to property in the second degree, and criminal trespass/family violence. She served 46 days in jail and completed the remainder of her sentence on probation.

She was barred from contacting her husband without a third-party mediator, ordered to stay away from drugs and alcohol, and required to attend a family violence intervention program.

In March 2007, she was arrested for several misdemeanors, including reckless driving, improper right turn, and DUI, according to the Independent. She pleaded guilty in June 2008, paid a $600 fine, served 12 months on probation, and completed 40 hours of community service.

In 2010, she faced civil charges for allegedly writing a bad check to a Chevy dealer for a vehicle deposit. The outcome of the case remains unclear.

In 2014, Gray received a speeding ticket in Barrow County and a misdemeanor traffic charge in Forsyth County.

The Gray household has been plagued by criminal issues and turmoil.

Gray’s father, Charles Polhamus, told CNN that the boy “lived in an environment that was hostile.” He added, “His dad would yell and scream at him, and he did the same to my daughter.”

As previously reported by CrimeOnline, Colt Gray has been charged with four counts of murder for allegedly using a semiautomatic rifle to kill two students and two teachers at Apalachee High School. Prosecutors have also charged his father for allowing his son access to the weapon.

Their preliminary hearings are set for December 4.
