A groomsman was struck by an SUV driven by the groom and his bride.
According to the City of Flint Police Department, on August 30 at approximately 8 p.m., Terry Lewis Taylor Jr., 29, was hit by an SUV in the 1400 block of E. Hamilton, leaving him severely injured.
Taylor was rushed to Hurley Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries and died, as CrimeOnline reported.
The driver of the SUV was identified as James Shirah, 22, with his new bride, Savahna Collier, 21, as the passenger.
Earlier that day, Shirah and Collier had been married. Taylor had participated in the wedding as one of Shirah’s groomsmen. At some point after the wedding, Taylor had a confrontation that led to him being struck by the SUV, which was reportedly traveling at high speed, according to the City of Flint Police Department.
ABC reports that County Prosecutor David Leyton said, “I’ve never seen anything quite like this. I’ve seen people running over other people but not so soon after a wedding.”
According to ABC, the wedding took place at a local pizzeria, and the incident occurred at a residence where the wedding party, family, and friends were celebrating.
On Thursday, Shirah was charged and arraigned for second-degree murder, while Collier was charged and arraigned for accessory after the fact to a felony.
Shirah was held without bond, and Collier’s bond was set at $4,000.
