An Oregon nurse reported missing when she missed a work shift earlier this week has been found dead, and a neighbor has been charged with her murder.
Melissa Jubane, 32, failed to show for her Wednesday morning shift at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, the Beaverton Police Department said. Officers conducted a welfare check at Jubane’s apartment, but she wasn’t there.
Family members and investigators tried unsuccessfully to contact her through out the day. Her phone appeared to be turned off, detectives said, and no information about her whereabouts were found in searches of her bank and credit card records.
As the investigation continued, officers determined that a neighbor, 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert, “was involved in her disappearance.” He was arrested Friday evening and charged with murder.
Jubane’s remains have been recovered, police said, although they provided no information about how, where, or when that took place. They also did not describe Schubert’s involvement.
“This is an active investigation,” police said. “While we acknowledge the significant community interest and concern, we must withhold further details to preserve the integrity of the investigation.”
