A Texas woman reported missing after a fire destroyed her home early Friday was found dead in an SUV in Missouri after a suspect led state troopers on a high speed chase and crashed.
Ryan Phillips, 33, was killed by state troopers after the crash in St. Louis County, according to the Princeton, Texas, Police Department. The missing woman, 30-year-old Delisha Evans, was found dead in Phillips vehicle.
Police and fire fighters were initially called to the structure fire in Princeton at about 7:30 Friday morning. Family members of Evans, who lived at the home, told investigators she was missing, and a search was launched. She was listed in state and national databases as investigators believed she was “in imminent danger.”
Texas Rangers joined the investigation, and Phillips was identified as a suspect. License plate readers identified a direction he was traveling, and later Friday night, Missouri state troopers located his Range Rover and initiated a pursuit when he refused to stop.
According to KSDK, troopers spotted the SUV on Interestate 44 near Afton — almost 600 miles from Princeton — and chased the vehicle as it exited the highway, eventually ending in a rollover crash. The highway patrol said that a trooper fired his weapon and a gun was found next to the Range Rover. Missouri officials said it wasn’t clear if Phillips fired at the troopers, but Princeton Police said hours later “gunshots were exchanged.”
Investigators have not said if Evans died prior to the crash, in the crash, or from gunshots after the crash.
