A Utah man was arrested late Saturday night after he allegedly held his seven children hostage at a St. George motel while threatening to harm them.
St. George Police said they were dispatched to the Quality Inn in that town at 11 p.m. for a domestic incident.
When they arrived, they found Jonathan Dayzie fighting with a woman. They separated the pair, but Dayzie locked himself in room at the hotel with his seven children.
Dayzie refused to surrender and threatened to hurt the children.
A St. George Police SWAT team forced their way into the room and rescued the children.
Dayzie was taken to a hospital and medically cleared before he was transported to jail and charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping, unlawful detention, domestic violence in the presence of children, disorderly conduct, child abuse, obstruction of justice, interfering with a police officer, and intoxication.
Medical personnel checked out the children and the woman, who was their mother. The children were released into the mother’s care.
