A Virginia man has been taken into custody after allegedly abducting a student as she walked to her school bus stop, according to Fox 5.
InsideNoVa reports that on Thursday, Jesus Enrique Ramirez Cabrera, 23, allegedly impersonated law enforcement and abducted the teen girl near the 9400 block of Clover Hill Road in Manassas, as she headed to the bus stop.
“He was driving slowly, watching my daughter, but she was paying attention to her phone with her headphones on and wasn’t aware of it,” the girl’s mother said. “Suddenly, he told her that he was a police officer and that she had to go with him. He took her belongings.”
While Cabrera was distracted searching through a backpack, the teen managed to jump from his moving Jeep. A resident in the area found her and called 911.
“She told me she jumped regardless of whether she might break a bone,” the mother told InsideNoVa. “She took the risk because she feared she would be raped or murdered. She decided to save her life. She is very afraid, but she’s safe at home with me.”
According to police reports, Cabrera faces charges of abduction, robbery, impersonating a law enforcement officer, and petty larceny, as reported by WTOP News.
Cabrera has been transported to the Prince William County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond, according to Fox 5.
“At this time, detectives do not believe any other suspects were involved in this incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the community,” the Manassas City Police Department said. “Due to the victim’s age and the ongoing investigation, no further information will be released.”
The Manassas City Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact them at 703-257-8000 or the 24/7 Crime Solvers Tip Line at 703-330-0330.
