An altercation between two students at a Nebraska high school erupted into gunfire Tuesday afternoon, sending a 15-year-old to a local hospital and a 14-year-old to jail.
Omaha Police said the victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but an update later Tuesday afternoon said the teen was in stable condition, WOWT reported.
Classes and extracurricular activities at Omaha Northwest High School were canceled for Wednesday, but officials said the school would reopen on Thursday.
Omaha Northwest was put into lockdown status at 12:30 p.m. and several other schools were put into “secure status.” Those schools were back to normal by 2:30 p.m.
Officials said the shooting took place inside the school but provided no further information about the location or what led to the shooting. The suspect teen was taken into custody just before 1 p.m. several blocks away after a pursuit.
No information was provided about potential charges for the suspect.
