A car resembling a vehicle possibly involved in a 9-year-old North Carolina girl’s 2000 disappearance was reportedly seen being taken from a property on Wednesday.
WSOC-TV reported that authorities were spotted towing the vehicle from a property in Cleveland County. Though tipsters said a similar vehicle was seen picking up Asha Degree 24 years earlier, authorities have not confirmed whether it is connected to the case.
However, the FBI has revealed that they have executed several search warrants in the county. They also disclosed that as many as 60 agents searched the Cleveland County property on Wednesday.
WSOC-TV reported that authorities searched two locations in Cleveland County on Tuesday. One of the locations was a home in Shelby located miles from where Degree vanished in 2000.
Degree has been missing since 2000, when she possibly left her Shelby home in the rain. Her parents said they woke up to find the girl missing, according to WSOC-TV.
According to the Shelby Star, the home in Shelby is where the car was seized on Wednesday. The news outlet reported that the home’s owner is Roy Lee Dedmon, who was charged in 2012 after an emaciated horse was found at a barn in the area. The case was ultimately dropped.
It is unclear whether Dedmon is linked to Degree’s disappearance.
Cleveland County police said in a statement on Wednesday, “The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, and the SBI are currently executing a court authorized search warrant at a property on Cherryville Road in Shelby. Cleveland County deputies, the FBI’s Evidence Response Team, and SBI agents, including specially trained K9s arrived this morning and will likely be on the scene for most of the day.
“The search warrants are not publicly available at this time. More information will be released when appropriate.”
