A Florida mother has been charged with child abuse and neglect after she allegedly shoved her 1-year-old daughter out of her car because the child spilled sjampoo.
The incident happened on September 5 in Hialeah and was captured on a Ring doorbell camera, as CrimeOnline reported, but at the time it appeared the little girl had fallen out of the car, followed by bizarre behavior from the girl’s mother
The video shows a bystander, on the phone, holding the toddler when Tasshay Mills drives up and identifies herself as the mother then snatches the child violently away when the bystander refuses to hand over the little girl. Mills then fled the scene and refused police requests to return and get medical attention for the toddler.
Police issued a missing child alert before locating the the child in Opa-Locka and Mills in Miramar.
According to an arrest warrant for Mills, another woman — in the car at the time — said that the toddler had spilled shampoo on the car seat, angering Mills, WTVJ reported. The woman said Mills hit the child several times and got angrier when the girl cried, so she opened the rear door and pushed the child onto the asphalt.
She drove away from the scene, then made a U-turn and returned to pick up the child, which is when she encountered the bystander, who was calling 911 when Mills returned.
The woman picks up the child and talks soothingly to her while calling police.
“Hello? I need you to come,” she says. “I need you to come.”
Two vehicles then pull up and MIlls gets out of one, but the bystander refuses to hand over the injured child.
“That is my baby!” Mills responds as she grabs the child and leaves.
“Oh my God!” the bystander tells police. “I need you guys to come, she f****** snatched the baby out of my hands!”
According to the warrant for Mills arrest, the baby had gravel on her face and arm, was bleeding from the head, and struggling to breathe. Witnesses took photos of Mills’ license plate to help identify her.
A detective contacted Mills, the warrant says, and she agreed to take the girl to a hospital, but she didn’t. When an officer went to her address, she wasn’t there.
The witness who had been in the car with Mills eventually told police where she and the girl could be found. The girl was taken to a hospital to be checked out.
Mills appeared in court on Wednesday and was given a $7,500 bond. The child is in the custody of the Department of Children and Families, and Mills has been ordered to stay away from her, WSVN reported.
