A nanny has been charged in connection with the death of a 3-year-old child who went missing while in her care earlier this month and was found dead in a pond.
Imani Lewis, 28, reported the child missing just before 7 p.m. on September 2 in Wilson Farm Park in Tredyffrin Township, Pennsylvania, WCAU reported. Police searched the park before finding the child’s body in a retention pond.
Police said that surveillance video from the park showed Lewis calling and texting multiple people while the child, who was non-verbal, played in the park.
“This is a devastating death for the victim’s family,” Tredyffrin Police Chief Michael Beaty said. “Our entire community has felt the effects of it.”
Lewis has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child. She was ordered held on a $100,000 bond with a preliminary hearing set for September 26.
