Passenger in Car That Struck and Killed Dallas Middle Schooler Charged With Murder

A passenger in a vehicle in Dallas that struck and killed a teenager walking to school last week has been charged with murder.

Police say James Grant, 47, was arguing with the vehicle’s driver as they drove down Marsalis Avenue last Friday, KXAS reported. Grant reportedly assaulted the driver, and in the ensuing struggle, the car went off the road and hit the 14-year-old Boude Storey Middle School student as he walked in the grass along the street.

The driver stopped the car and called 911 while Grant ran away, KDFW reported. The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. Family members identified him as Jonathan Ayala.

Police later found Grant and arrested him on a felony murder charge. The driver has not been charged.
