A 29-year-old Ohio man who called 911 to report a 3-year-old girl missing is now charged with strangling her to death.
Devin O’Brien called Sandusky police Thursday night to report a child missing from his home, as CrimeOnline reported. Officers arrived at his Venice Road residence around 9 p.m. and began searching. Shortly after, they found the child dead near the property.
O’Brien stated during the 911 call that the girl and his dog were “taken” by a “deadbeat drug guy” while he was asleep for half an hour, Fox8 reported. He also said his girlfriend was working in Cleveland and that she and the 3-year-old had recently moved into his home.
“I’m thinking should I drive around and look. I don’t know,” he said. “They just moved in with me. There’s a field near here.”
The Sandusky Register reports that Sandusky Police Chief Jared Oliver said the Lucas County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy Friday morning. The child died from strangulation and suffered blunt force trauma and also had “signs of sexual assault.”
O’Brien is being held without bond at the Erie County Jail. His arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Monday.
