The mother of a 3-year-old Wisconsin boy found dead last week after he disappeared in February says she is “devastated” at her son’s death.
Katrina Baur issued a statement through her attorney from jail, where she is being held without bond on child neglect charges, as is her boyfriend, Jesse Vang, WGBA reported.
As CrimeOnline reported, Baur had dropped the boy off at Vang’s home in Two Rivers in February for “disciplinary reasons.” Vang told police he had ordered to boy to stand and pray but fell asleep, and when he awoke three hours later, the toddler was gone.
A hunter found human remains on September 7 about three miles from Vang’s home, on private property near a Girl Scout camp. They were identified late last week as Vue. The cause of death has not been determined.
“Katrina Baur is devastated by the most recent news, identifying the remains found as Elijah,” Baur’s lawyer, Amber R. Gratz, said in the statement, WGBA said. “She had continued to have hope that her little boy would be found alive. At this time, she is mourning the loss of her son.
Neither Vang nor Baur have been charged in connection with the boy’s disappearance or death.
