Georgia Couple Shot to Death Before Housefire, Suspect Caught in Mississippi

A suspect has been arrested in the deaths of a Georgia couple found shot to death last week inside a burning home.

Firefighters found the bodies of Brittany Hall, 28, and Derris Woods, 35, in the home near Panthersville after extinguishing the September 9 blaze, WSB reported. The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office said on Tuesday they had been shot before the fire.

Witnesses said they heard a loud explosion just before the fire erupted.

Firefighters arrived at the fire at about 1:30 a.m. and found it already fully engulfed in flames, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said, quoting DeKalb Fire spokesman Capt. Jaeson Daniels.

Daniels said the blaze was so instense that firefighters could not enter the home. While they were on the scene, the building partially collapsed, and firefighters had to focus attention on preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring homes.

Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters found the bodies of Hall and Woods.

Police said they identified a suspect and found them in Mississippi, where he was arrested. No further information was released, but the suspect will have to be extradited to Georgia for trial.
