A 22-year-old Florida man has been charged with the shooting death of another man who tried to intervene in a fight involving a group of girls in Florida City.
Miami-Dade Police said the shooting took place at about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and that 47-year-old Johnny Lewis Stevenson Jr. had tried to break up a fight that involved his daughter. WTVJ reported.
Kentarian Cross pulled out a gun and shot Stevenson, police said. Stevenson was hit in the stomach and taken to a hospital in a private vehicle before he was flown to Jackson South Medical Center. He died there while in surgery.
Police said that video from the scene showed the fight starting on a school bus and moving into the street before Stevenson arrived, WSVN said. A photograph showed Cross, who was identified as the suspect by witnesses, with a gun before the fight.
Cross was located and arrested on Wednesday.
