Georgia Jail Deputy Fired After He’s Charged With Child Molestation, Incest

Georgia authorities arrested a Haralson County deputy this week on child molestation and incest charges.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said it was asked by the Polk County Police Department in Cedartown to investigate allegations involving Thomas Roberts, 30, on November 10, 2023.

Roberts was arrested on Tuesday and brought to the Polk County jail, charged with child molestation, aggravated sodomy, and incest.

Roberts was immediately fired, the Haralson County Sheriff’s office said, adding that Roberts had been a detention deputy for more than a year.

“I have stood for transparency from the day I took office. I know that the GBI has conducted a careful investigation into this case,” said Sheriff Stacy Williams. “Once we knew the results of the investigation and the atrociousness of the charges, we promptly made the decision to dismiss the former deputy as well as make sure we were transparent to the citizens of Haralson County about this investigation and arrest.”

The GBI said the case will be prosecuted by the Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
