Georgia School Shooter’s Mom Indicted on Elder Abuse Charges

The mother of accused Georgia school shooter Colt Gray was indicted this week on charges of elder abuse for allegedly taping her mother to a chair when the older woman refused to accompany her to confront her ex-husband about something last fall.

A police report says that one of Deborah Polhamus’s other daughters, who lived in Florida, called a friend to check on her mother when she couldn’t reach her, WSB reported. The friend found Polhamus with her  wrists and ankles taped to a chair.

“Marcee became upset and told Deborah that she was making her go with her because she was going to kill her ex,” the incident report says. “Deborah stated she refused to go and Marcee threw her up against the wall causing a cut on her left wrist. Marcee stated that since Deborah wasn’t going she was going to tie her to a chair and take her phone so she wouldn’t call anyone.”

The incident took place on November 3. Gray reportedly told her mother she’d call her father to come free her, but she was trapped in the chair for nearly 24 hours before her other daughter’s friend found her. She also took her mother’s phone and broke a mirror and a door.

Gray was arrested in December and released on bond in April. With Monday’s indictment on charges of exploitation and intimidation of a diabled adult, false imprisonment, property damage, and theft, Gray now faces up to 20 years in prison.

She was arrested three days after the incident with her mother and charged with drug possession and damaging Colin Gray’s work vehicle in Barrow County, where he lived, WAGA reported. For that, she served 46 days in jail with the rest of a five year sentence on probation.

After that sentencing, she was taken to Ben Hill County, where her mother lived, to face charges there. She was released on a $5,700 bond in April.

The arrest related to Deborah Polhamus was not listed by media that reported on other brushes with the law by the school shooter’s mother. as CrimeOnline reported.

Colt Gray, 14, has been charged with four counts of murder in the deaths of two teachers and two classmates at Apalachee High School in Winder on September 4. Nine people were wounded in the shooting. The boy’s father, Colin Gray, has been charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of murder, and eight counts of child cruelty for giving his son the AR-style rifle he used in the shooting.

Marcee Gray called the school about 30 minutes before her son started shooting after she got a text from him saying, “I’m sorry.” A school counselor told her that her son had been talking about school shootings that morning, but he was already out of his classroom and no one found him before the shooting. The boy also reportedly texted his father the same message.

The affidavit apparently did not say why Marcee Gray wanted to confront Colin Gray last November when she had the altercation with her mother. .
