Florida Sheriff’s Deputy Shoots Girlfriend in the Head in Alleged ‘Accidental Discharge’

A Florida sheriff’s deputy has been charged with manslaughter after he shot his girlfriend in the head with a rifle and claimed it was an accident.

Leslie Dale Boileau, 32, lost his job with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office after the fatal shooting on Thursday, the Ocala Gazette reported. He had been with the department for eight years.

The Ocala Star Banner reported that Boileau called 911 himself after shooting Polina Wright, 25, telling invesigators it was an “accidental discharge.”  He said that he and Wright had been out for dinner and drinks and then returned home and where “cleaning the guns” and “were pointing them at each other.”

The arrest reports says that Boileau pointed a rifle at Wright, pulled the trigger, and a bullet came out and struck her in the head. He said Wright had wanted him to show her how to use guns, and he knew that pointing the weapons at each other was wrong.

“I know this looks really bad,” he told responding officers. “I did not want this to happen.”

Boileau appeared before a judge Saturday morning and was given a $30,000 bond. He is barred from having weapons or any contact with Wright’s family if he leaves jail. His next court date is in late October.
