The son of a man accused of trying to kill President Donald Trump earlier this month at a Florida golf course was arrested on Tuesday for possessing child pornography.
According to ABC News, investigators said they discovered “hundreds” of illicit files during Saturday’s search at Oran Routh’s home in Guilford County, North Carolina. The search was reportedly unrelated to the suspect’s father, Ryan Routh — who allegedly tried to kill Trump at his West Palm Beach golf club on September 15.
In July, Oran Routh, 35, allegedly responded to someone advertising content from a known child pornography series. Authorities claimed they analyzed two Samsung devices, belonging to the suspect, containing the illegal files and videos, ABC News reported.
According to the New York Post, the files were found in Oran Routh’s possession amid a separate investigation. The files reportedly depicted children as young as six being sexually abused. Fox News reported that the search at Oran Routh’s home was related to his father.
Oran Routh is charged with receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography.
Meanwhile, Ryan Routh, 58, is charged with federal gun offenses in connection with the alleged assassination attempt. Prosecutors said additional charges are forthcoming, according to the Associated Press.
Ryan Routh reportedly left behind a note detailing his plans to kill Trump. He allegedly explained in a letter he sent to a friend that he was carrying out the assassination because he disagreed with Trump on foreign policy, including Russia and Ukraine.
On Monday, a judge ordered Ryan Routh to remain jailed until trial. His son is due to appear in federal court on Tuesday.
