A 17-year-old Iowa girl who was reported missing on Sunday was found dead Monday in a suspected homicide.
KCCI reported that Michele Jackson’s body was discovered near a farm field in Calhoun County after police searched a bloody area not far from a city park. Nathan Bevers-McGivney, 21, is believed to have slit the teen’s throat in Farnhamville on Sunday, a day before her body was discovered.
Jackson’s mother and daughter were searching for the teen Sunday night when they reportedly encountered Bevers-McGivney — who was covered in blood and had some of Jackson’s possessions. He was taken into custody, where he requested a lawyer after police questioned him about the blood on his clothing, according to KCRG.
Authorities suspect Bevers-McGivney tried to conceal the slaying based on where Jackson’s body was located.
Bevers-McGivney is charged with first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse. He remains jailed without bond.
