Minnesota Family Gathering Turns Deadly for Rising Thai Pop Star

A rising Thai pop star was shot and killed over the weekend by his cousin during a family gathering in Minnesota.

Nichanon Kittikroekphon, 34 — who performs as Tswb Moua — recently moved to the United States and married his girlfriend, who was reportedly pregnant, according to the Facebook page Hmong is Beautiful.

Lue Chang, 32, has been charged with second degree murder, according to the News&Observer.

Witnesses told police about 30 people were attending the celebration, which was held to welcome new children into the family, on Saturday night in Brooklyn Park, WCCO reported. Responding officers found the victim unconscious in the backyard and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen and back.

Witnesses said Chang and Kittikroekphon had a short argument and that Chang pulled out a gun and shot his cousin. Then, while other party attendees quickly responded, he shot him again in the back as he tried to crawl away.

One witness told police that Chang said his cousin “disrespected me” when asked why he shot him, and another witness said he heard Chang say, “Today you’re going to die” before the gunshots.

Charging documents say a toddler was standing next to the killer as he shot the victim.

Other family members tackled Chang to the floor and held him there until police arrived, KSTP reported.
