A 67-year-old Pennsylvania man has been arrested for the shooting death of his 42-year-old son on Saturday.

Police say John F. Gustites shot John A. Gustites, 42, in the head and then watched religious video for 12 hours while he decided whether to kill himself, WNEP reported.

The videos, he said, convinced him to call 911 and report the shooting.

Gustites told investigators that he woke up to his son chasing a cat around the house Saturday morning and then got into an argument with him when the son demanded use of the family vehicle, according to a probable cause statement. The elder man retrieved his gun in the midst of the argument and told investigators he shot his son when he came at him with a screwdriver.

Police said the bullet had a downward trajectory, the affidavit said.

The elder Gustites said his gon made a “gurgling” noise so he knew he was dead. He said he didn’t remember pulling the trigger but knew he must have done so.

The shooting took place at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday. After watching religious content all day, he called 911 at about 8 p.m.

Gustites is charged with third-degree murder, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, and simple assault and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on October 10. He is being held on a $250,000 bond, the Times-News reported.
