Two people have been arrested in California after a 2-year-old girl died from traumatic injuries consistent with abuse.
Bakersfield Police officers responded to a call for a medical emergency on Thursday and took the toddler to a hospital, where she died, Bakerfield Now reported.
Gregory Joseph MacDonald, 29, and Chandy Ann McCarthy, 40, were arrested Friday morning. MacDonald was charged with first degree murder and assault on a child under 8, and McCarthy was charged with child endangerment.
A second child at the home was taken into protective custody.
Both MacDonald and McCarthy were said to be from Reno, Nevada, but police did not say what they were doing in Bakersfield. Investigators also did not say how the two were connected with each other or either of the children.
MacDonald and McCarthy are scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
Anyone with information should call Detective Audrina Petris at 661-326-3543 or BPD at 661-327-7111.
