An Alabama man was arrested last week after he kidnapped a woman, raped her, and then forced her into a “mock’ wedding ceremony on the steps of a church.
Roy Lee Clowder has been charged with robbery, first-degree sexual abuse, resisting arrest, and first-degree kidnapping, according to WKRG.
The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office said said Clowder pulled a gun on a woman who agreed to give him a ride home from a Dauphin Island convenience store at about 9:30 p.m. on October 11. He hopped in the driver’s seat and drove the car to several locations, including the church.
She notified a friend, who called 911, the sheriff’s office said. Police began searching for her from the convenience store and repeatedly called her cell phone.
“The victim, in this case, remained calm and was able to communicate her whereabouts to a friend,” said Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch. “Because of this, we were able to assist in locating her and getting her out of a very dangerous situation.”
Police did not find her, however. Clowder released her after an undisclosed period of time. Police arrested him at his home.
He is also charged with a probation violation and is being held without bond, according to jail records.
